About the project

Synergy is a fundamental research project at Zaporizhzhia National University, running from 2026 to 2028. It explores how the capabilities of artificial intelligence can be combined with the values of digital humanism so that technology serves people in Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction, strengthening humanitarian security and supporting sustainable development.

Artificial intelligence increasingly shapes how management decisions are made, how services are delivered and how citizens deal with the state. Yet digital systems are often fragmented, the workings of AI are hard to explain, and risks to personal data undermine public trust. Well-known smart city models around the world focus mainly on technology and do not always consider the humanitarian dimension, so Ukraine, rebuilding after the war, needs a human-centred approach of its own.

The project aims to create and implement a model of synergy between artificial intelligence and digital humanism that helps ensure humanitarian security, supports sustainable development and sets new guiding values for the country’s recovery. It looks at how AI can help smart cities rebuild infrastructure, manage resources, defend against cyber threats and support social services, and at how AI-based decisions can be made transparent, ethical and understandable.
